Sizzling Stir Fry Sauce

Sizzling Stir Fry Sauce

What happens when you are trying to eat healthy and you run out of the will to eat salad? Stir fry! The perfect sauce will make all the difference and this SizzlingStir Fry Sauce is quick, easy and tasty as hell.

Sizzling Stir Fry Sauce

I love a good stir fry and my toddler is going through a phase right now of obsessing over rice.  She loves it and so if I can cover the rice in fresh veggies and a little sauce makes for a nutritious meal for her.  It also means something tasty and filling for me.  The only real decision is what you want to put into the stir fry.  There are days when the produce is good that I roam the market and fill my basket with whatever is fresh and looks great.  I end up with a big stir fry filled with all the colours of the rainbow.  There are other days when one thing looks really good and the others a little less dazzling and I decide the pick one vegetable and go from there.  That was what happened tonight.  The green beans looked great and so I grabbed a bag of them and then went home to see what else I had on hand that I could throw in to jazz it up.

This girl is not called the Gilded Sprout for nothing! On the counter were some sprouted chickpeas and soy beans begin to be eaten.  A handful of peanuts from the cupboard and an onion rounded out the ingredients.  The only thing left was to make the sauce which, lest be honest, is the only reason that you are still reading this post. So… to the sauce.

What makes a great sauce? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist but rather 5 minutes watching cooking television to know that you need to hit that perfect combination of sweet, salty, spicy and umami (look it up).  Time to raid the cupboard again and start pulling out bottle of this and that.  The thing with Asian sauces is that there are a lot of ingredients which you will see over and over again and so it is well worth the trip to the Asian grocers to pick up a few supplies.  They will last for a long time and you will find that you go back to them over and over again.  The best part?  They tend to be super cheap! You are also going to need to have some fresh garlic and some ginger on hand.  The ginger doesn’t need to be fresh as I keep mine in the freezer which means that I can buy a big fresh piece, use what I need and then freeze it so that whenever I need a little grating of heat, it is right there. In go the ingredients along with some corn starch and you have a ready made sauce in a jar that will keep in the fridge for a good while.  This means that if you are going to do this, make lots and keep it on hand for a super quick meal one of these nights when you run out of time and people are begging for food (that tends to happen here).

Heat your wok up nice and hot, add a little oil and get your veggies in there.  Once they are cooked and ready to go, add in some sauce and let it thicken.  Once the sauce is thick, you are in business!
