ACV and Honey Throat Rescue
Picture this, I have an incredibly important presentation tomorrow and after a weekend wiping the toddler’s runny nose it hits me. A sore throat! Here we go, I am getting sick and I am going sound like a raspy mess for the presentation. Whatever is a girl to do?
I will admit that things became desperate. I am not a fan of taking pills when sick because I have always turned to natural remedies and they have worked out well for me. Plus, they tend to make me drowsy and I was not wanting to risk looking like a zombie while presenting. I didn’t really have the time (or quite frankly the energy to make up some lozenges and so I raided the cupboard and pantry looking for help. I had been drinking herbal teas all day (the key to fighting anything off is pounding back liquids as we all know) and so I wanted something that packed a little more of a punch. That is when I remembered the vinegar…
I know what you are thinking but it works. Apple cider vinegar is one of those natural wonders and is used to treat anything from household cleaning to treating dandruff to deodorizing your feet. It’s antibacterial preterites make it perfect for fighting a sore throat and this remedy has been used for ages. In its most simple form, all that you need to do is dilute the vinegar in some warm water and sip it. But why stop there? I always say that there is no point int utilizing one natural wonder when you can utilize two (I have never actually said that before today but I am going to try to make it stick). Bring on the honey! Honey, like apple cider vinegar has strong antibacterial and anti fungal properties and can also coat the throat to sooth when taken straight. If you are ever in a pinch with a sore throat, grab the honey jar and a spoon and just swallow some. The result is amazing! But for this sore throat I was going for the combo. Confession- I love the taste of it!
The process could not be more simple. Mix the 1-2 tbsp apple cider vinegar into about a cup of water and add 1 tbsp of honey. Mix it well and drink it while it is still hot. Fair warning, it does not improve in taste as it cools. I am happy to report that one of these before bed and one in the morning before the presentation and I was feeling pretty good. My voice held out. Funny how some people get a great sexy rasp to their voice and other just sound like they are close to death and others should leave the room. I am the latter.
If you are reading this and under the weather too, get well soon!
