How To Sprout

What’s It all About?

I started sprouting a few years ago and have never looked back. In many parts of the country you can’t even buy sprouts at the supermarket because of E.coli scares. When you can get them, they are expensive for what you get and don’t really last all that long in your fridge.I started sprouting a few years ago and have never looked back. All you need is a good old mason jar, some muslin to cover the jar and an elastic band.

So start sprouting at home!  You can try almost anything as long as it is not split or cooked.

Alfalfa is so last century!

So you are ready to start sprouting!

imageHere are some simple instructions to get you going.  I recommend that you start with a lentil or a mung bean if you are new to this as they are the most reliable and easy sprouts to get going.  Once you gave mastered them, experiment and enjoy!

imageStep 1 – Choose your sprout.  You can sprout any bean or seed that has not been cooked or split. I have some examples bellow but experiment!

Step 2- Rinse your beans/seeds well and remove any stones or broken pieces. Step 3 – Soak the bean/seeds in water to bring them out of their dormant state.  I usually just fill the jar with water and soak them in there.  I have added a soaking table for your reference bellow.

Step 5- Place the jars on their sides in a dark place or cover with a dishcloth. Step 6 –Rinse the sprouts daily at east once.  If you can do it twice a day, do that. Step 7 EAT THEM!
